“For the genetic improvement of our domestic animals”
The Laboratory of Veterinary Genetics (Labgenvet) is an academically-based DNA diagnostic laboratory for domestic animals located at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Montreal, Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada.
For over 10 years now, Labgenvet has been offering a variety of DNA based tests for the diagnosis of genetic diseases in large and small animals of veterinary interest. This DNA testing service provides the information necessary for evaluating disease risk of an animal and for making breeding decisions designed to prevent the transmission of disease causing mutations to future generations, with the eventual goal of eliminating simple genetic diseases from our domestic animals. Since information is knowledge and since knowledge demands responsibility, it is now our responsibility to consider the genetic health of our domestic animals, as individuals, as breeds and as species.
In addition to diagnostic services, Labgenvet strives to function as a public source of information, impartial, current and comprehensive, concerning the genetics and genetic diseases of our domestic animals. This educational function is designed to be useful for the three major stakeholders in domestic animal husbandry: the breeders, the veterinary profession, and individual animal owners.
All DNA test results are accompanied with a DNA Analysis Report. Labgenvet is responsible for the laboratory analysis of the samples received, however, we cannot be held responsible for the sampling procedure nor for the authenticity of the information provided.
The Laboratory of Veterinary Genetics is recognized by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) as a DNA Testing Lab within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Montreal.
